President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Oman, asserting that the United States will respond decisively if the Gulf nation supports efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial channel for global oil shipments. During a cabinet meeting, Trump emphasized the importance of keeping the strait open to all, amidst discussions that Iran and Oman might introduce transit tolls on vessels navigating through this strategic passage.

Highlighting the United States’ commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation in the region, Trump declared that no country would be permitted to exert control over the strait. He further insisted that Oman must align with international expectations, cautioning that there would be significant repercussions if the nation failed to cooperate. The Strait of Hormuz is a pivotal route, accounting for nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply, and its stability is vital for global energy security.

The situation in the strait has become increasingly volatile, partly due to the ongoing tensions stemming from the US-Israel conflict with Iran. This has raised alarms regarding the reliability of energy supplies and the broader implications for regional security. Oman’s role as a longstanding ally of the United States, known for its efforts to mediate in regional conflicts and facilitate dialogue between Iran and Western countries, underscores the complexity of the current diplomatic landscape.

Trump also criticized Iran for allegedly stalling negotiations, suggesting that the nation is strategically delaying discussions in anticipation of shifts in the US political scene ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. This accusation adds another layer to the already heightened diplomatic tensions in the region.
