Peace Board Updates Nations on Gaza Rebuilding Progress

Date:

The Board of Peace is set to convene a significant briefing on September 23 to discuss ongoing efforts to rebuild Gaza as part of a plan initiated under U.S. President Donald Trump. This meeting, taking place alongside the United Nations General Assembly, will gather representatives from numerous countries, as well as key international stakeholders, to evaluate progress and outline future priorities for Gaza’s reconstruction.

The briefing will include participation from several United Nations agencies and the European Union, aiming to explore potential areas of collaboration. Central to the discussions will be updates on negotiations concerning the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in Gaza, alongside plans for governance, reconstruction, and humanitarian initiatives.

A committee composed of Palestinian technocrats is slated to present details on 71 proposed projects for the first six months of the reconstruction initiative. However, a start date for these projects has yet to be determined, as the broader reconstruction efforts continue to face delays due to unresolved disagreements over the disarmament of armed groups within the region.

Efforts by the Board of Peace to advance the disarmament plan have encountered resistance, particularly from Israel, which has opposed several key elements of the proposal. Israeli cooperation is deemed essential for the successful implementation of the planned reconstruction and governance activities in Gaza.
