A federal appeals court in the United States has dismissed former President Donald Trump’s recent attempt to postpone the disbursement of $5.8 million to E. Jean Carroll. This follows Carroll’s victory in a 2023 lawsuit against Trump for sexual abuse and defamation.
The appellate court’s decision came after Trump contested a prior ruling by a lower court that mandated the release of the funds, which had been kept in a court-controlled account during the duration of the appeals. This sum consists of the initial $5 million judgment, along with interest that accumulated over time.
This ruling comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision not to consider Trump’s appeal, effectively upholding the original judgment. Judge Lewis Kaplan emphasized that the legal avenues had been thoroughly explored and concluded that it was now appropriate to enforce the payment of the judgment.
Despite the court’s decision, Trump maintains his denial of all allegations made against him and continues to dispute the legal interpretation concerning the terms associated with the release of the funds.
