EPC Begins Mass Producing 100V GaN Power Stages for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its new 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family, which includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111. These ePower™ Stage ICs are crafted for high-performance motion-control applications and feature an integration of high-side and low-side eGaN® FETs, along with gate drivers and level-shifting circuitry. All components are housed in compact, thermally efficient QFN packages.

With the ability to support operations up to 100 V and current ratings of 35 A and 20 A, depending on the model, these devices are designed to enhance power density and efficiency while streamlining system design. Key features of this product line include fast fault shutdown, secure gate control during power-loss situations, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input PWM options are provided for multi-axis motor-control applications.

In conjunction with the new power-stage ICs, EPC is also introducing the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms are built around the new ICs and come equipped with gate drivers, current and voltage sensing capabilities, housekeeping power supplies, as well as temperature monitoring and protection functions.

The new devices are readily available through EPC’s global distribution network, including retailers like Digi-Key and Mouser. They are targeted at a range of applications, such as humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. Pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 is set at US$3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are priced at US$2.47 each, with orders of 3,000 units. The EPC91128 and EPC91129 evaluation boards are priced at US$640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 priced at US$630 each.

To support the launch, EPC is releasing a technical white paper in both English and Chinese, detailing the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for the new GaN power-stage ICs.
