The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has claimed responsibility for attacking two oil tankers as they attempted to navigate the Strait of Hormuz under the protection of the U.S. military. The IRGC alleged that these vessels deviated from their designated shipping routes. Following the incident, four additional tankers reportedly reversed their course. This development comes amid heightened tensions in the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy supplies that has been severely disrupted due to the renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States.

The ongoing conflict has led to a significant decline in maritime movement through the strait, concurrently pushing global crude oil prices to soar above $90 per barrel. The ripple effects of these military tensions are being felt across the region. In a separate incident, Kuwait reported successfully intercepting Iranian drones that were allegedly targeting important military and strategic sites, although no casualties were reported. Meanwhile, in Lebanon, Israeli forces conducted a substantial military strike near Beaufort Castle, which they claimed was aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure. Lebanese authorities have accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement with this action.

As these military developments unfold, U.S. President Donald Trump has convened a cabinet meeting at Camp David to evaluate the ongoing conflict and its economic consequences. The administration faces mounting pressure due to rising fuel and consumer prices, which have been exacerbated by the conflict. Recent opinion polls indicate a decline in public support for the war, complicating the administration’s position further.

Despite the regional instability, major energy companies have seen an increase in profits, driven by the sustained high oil prices affecting the global markets. The situation underscores the complex interplay between geopolitical tensions and economic repercussions, with energy markets being particularly sensitive to the developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
