US-Jordan Trade Pact Boosts Economic Bonds Through Technology Advancements

Date:

The United States and Jordan have unveiled a new trade agreement designed to enhance economic collaboration, reduce trade barriers, and generate fresh business opportunities for enterprises in both countries. This initiative will see Jordan maintain duty-free access for most U.S. goods entering the kingdom. Additionally, both nations will collaborate to eliminate logistical and trade hindrances to bolster the flow of commerce.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer emphasized that the agreement aligns with President Donald Trump’s strategy to deepen economic and strategic partnerships in the Middle East while opening new markets for American exporters. Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, highlighted that while Jordanian exports to the United States will incur a 10 percent tariff, U.S. exports to Jordan will continue to benefit from the existing free-trade agreement, remaining exempt from tariffs. Qudah also mentioned that this deal is anticipated to stimulate investment between the two nations.

The U.S. and Jordan’s trade relationship took a significant step forward in 2001 when they signed a free-trade agreement, marking Jordan as the first Arab country to formalize such a pact with Washington. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were fully eliminated, paving the way for a robust trading partnership.

In 2025, the trade volume between the two countries reached $5.34 billion, according to U.S. government data. Jordan’s primary exports include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones. Meanwhile, its major import partners encompass China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, underscoring Jordan’s strategic trade relations in the region.
