President Donald Trump declared the war with Iran unlike any military conflict in American history on Friday, promising that US strikes would intensify to levels the world had never seen. He called Iranian leaders “deranged scumbags” and declared their deaths a personal honor while announcing that Kharg Island’s military installations had been obliterated in one of the most powerful raids in the history of the Middle East. The conflict has drawn in more nations and produced more daily strikes, drone attacks, and missile barrages than virtually any previous regional war in the Middle East.
The geographic scope of the conflict on Friday alone was extraordinary, touching Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, the UAE, and Israel simultaneously. Saudi Arabia intercepted close to 50 Iranian drones in a single intensive day of defensive operations. Qatar issued Doha evacuation warnings before confirming a successful missile interception. Two people died in Oman when drones crashed in an industrial area near Sohar. Debris from an intercepted Iranian projectile damaged a building in Dubai’s International Financial Centre. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched new coordinated strikes on Israel with Hezbollah.
US and Israeli forces have struck more than 15,000 combined targets since the war began. Israel alone reported over 200 individual strikes in the most recent 24 hours, targeting Iranian missile systems, weapons production facilities, and air defence networks. Trump’s late announcement that US Central Command had obliterated every military installation on Kharg Island described one of the most powerful raids in the entire history of the Middle East. He warned that oil infrastructure would be struck next if Iran continued to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
Lebanon continues to bear a devastating toll. Over 600 people have been killed and 800,000 displaced since the latest fighting began. Eight more died in an Israeli strike on Sidon on Friday. Israeli forces also struck the Zrarieh Bridge over the Litani River. Hezbollah fired rockets at northern Israel, injuring about 60 people. Iran has reported over 1,300 deaths. Israel reports 12. The United States has lost 13 service members, including six in a tanker aircraft crash in Iraq. France lost one soldier to a pro-Iranian militia drone in Iraq.
Tehran residents described a city of constant explosions, power cuts, fuel shortages, and desperate trapped civilians. A retired professor begged the world to intervene. A shopkeeper counted six explosions in one hour. Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei was described by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth as wounded, disfigured, and hiding underground. European governments sought diplomatic back-channels with Tehran for Strait of Hormuz shipping safety. With Trump promising unprecedented escalation and Iran showing no sign of backing down, the conflict appeared set to enter an even more destructive and internationally destabilizing phase.
