Hotel Okura Co., Ltd., a leading international Japanese hotel operator, announced that The Okura Resort Hakone Gora—the first property to debut under the Okura Resort brand in Japan—is scheduled to open in 2029. The luxury resort will be developed and owned by Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd., with Hotel Okura overseeing operations pursuant to an agreement finalized on July 11, 2025.

Located in the renowned hot spring district of Hakone, a destination welcoming nearly 20 million domestic and international travelers annually, the resort will occupy a prime position in Gora. The area is known for abundant natural hot springs, scenic mountain views including Myojogatake, and vibrant cultural attractions.

President Toshihiro Ogita of Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. expressed confidence in the project, emphasizing Hakone’s longstanding appeal and alignment with the Okura Resort philosophy rooted in omotenashi. “We aim to deliver a refined, culturally authentic experience that reflects our commitment to harmony and Japanese aesthetics,” he stated.

The property—designed by acclaimed Curiosity Studio under the “Forest Hideaway” concept—will integrate seamlessly into the natural landscape. The resort will feature 58 spacious guest rooms across two wings, each offering private open-air baths with Owakudani Hot Spring water. Facilities include an expansive bathing area with saunas, a fine dining restaurant with a teppanyaki counter, and a lobby lounge bar.

Further details include a total floor area of 9,650.84 sqm, multiple treatment rooms, and convenient access from Gora Station and Naka-Gora cable car station. Hotel Okura, founded in 1958, currently operates 79 hotels worldwide through its subsidiary Okura Nikko Hotel Management.
