US-Canada trade talks have been “terminated” by president Donald Trump over a dispute involving a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan .
The ad, from Ontario, used Reagan’s voice to warn against tariffs. Trump called the ad “fraudulent” and “fake” on social.
He accused Canada of “egregious behavior” and attempting to interfere with US supreme court hearings on his 35% tariffs on Canadian goods.
The ad has also been condemned by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. They stated the “selective audio” “misrepresents” the full speech and was used without permission.
The halt in talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, puts a vital economic partnership at risk.
